Born in London and growing up in Hertfordshire, Cardiff based jazz vocalist Joseph Wilkins has begun entertaining jazz lovers throughout South Wales with an effortless yet exciting approach to vocal Jazz that can fit just as well in a cocktail bar as it does on the stage of a Jazz club. Supported by a band consisting of some of the most talented jazz musicians in the Cardiff and Bristol area, he has begun making a name for himself in some of the most notable bars in Cardiff. With a background originating in classical music, he transitioned into jazz through a love of Nat King Cole, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Kurt Elling and Carmen McRae and began studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music in 2019. While under the tuition of great musicians and mentors within the scene such as Tina May, Nia Lynn, Brigitte Beraha, Huw Warren, Paula Gardener and Sachal Vasandani he has developed a unique style of improvisation and composition that make him one of the most exciting young male vocalists in the scene.
In 2020 along with fellow collaborators Daniel Newberry and Nick Williams he started the Neo-Soul group 'Mønk' releasing an EP that was later featured on 'BBC introducing'
